The street itself is first recorded in 1547, on the south side of a royal deer park; the road just north of it was named Birdcage Walk after the aviaries Charles II kept there. Reception is staffed from 08:30 to 18:00, and the building is accessible 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Pavilion City is a private members' club with serviced offices at Cannon Green, next door to Cannon Street station. Private offices from two to sixteen desks come fully fitted with bespoke furniture, warehouse-oak floors and floor-to-ceiling windows, and membership carries the club with it - an eighth-floor members' bar, two roof terraces with 360-degree views of the City skyline, members' lounges, a barista on site and 'The Listings' restaurant downstairs.
